“Lord, it is good to be here!” (Mt 17:4)
After settling into the Regum Christi North Carolina scene, I have the pleasure of introducing myself as your new chaplain.
I am a native of Defiance, Ohio and the sixth of ten children. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Bowling Green State University I entered the Legionaries of Christ in 1994. I completed my seminary studies at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome, Italy and was ordained to the priesthood in 2005.
For next five years I assisted with formation and administration at the Legionaries’ minor seminary in Colfax, California. Then I spent two years in Mexico City in my first assignment within Regnum Christ as a chaplain for men. I moved to San Jose, California in 2012, and over the course of 13 years I had several assignments, including superior of the local Legionaries of Christ community, hospital chaplain, Regum Christi local director, and chaplain for the Serra Preschool in San Francisco. Overlapping many of these ministries was my chaplaincy for the Regnum Christi women. I complemented my work as a spiritual director with training in healing ministry with the John Paul II Healing Center in Tallahassee, Florida. Along with co-founding and serving on the Divine Mercy Inner Healing retreats at Our Lady of Santa Clara Retreat Center, I was also chaplain for another formative/healing ministry called All Things Women.
With all that chaplaincy work in Regnum Christi and other ministries, one might think I would be an expert by now. Yet, I keep finding the Lord’s words very applicable, “Behold, I make all things new.” (Rev 21:5) And so it is here and now – a new place, new faces, with new opportunities to build the Kingdom of Christ with all of you.
I look forward to meeting each one of you. God bless you!
In Christ,
Fr Brian Shininger, LC
